Hello, everyone :)
!!!
Long time no see,
right? Hehehe. At the previous time, I was talking about "English Language
Teaching Methods" and I have been explained 3 methods of teaching English
that are widely used and demanded to be known in detail.
in this section I
will talk more specifically about one of them, the audio lingual method.
Definition and technique

The Audiolingual Method is a method for foreign language teaching which emphasized the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing. This method is combination between behavioral psychology and linguistic. It’s also called “Army Method” because this method is appeared since the World War II for the American armies who had to learn language quickly and intensively.
In the Audiolingual Method, the students first hear a
language. Later, they speak the language and after that, they read and write in
it. Mother tongue is discouraged in the classroom when this method is used. The
Audiolingual Method does not learn lots of vocabulary. Rather, the teacher
drills speaking and grammar because in this method, grammar is most important
for the student. In other word, the student must repeat grammar pattern after
the teacher.
The using of
audio lingual method
1. Language is the utterances used in everyday life.
With the presence mentioned, can we see this method which
emphasizes the person who is speaking. It is true, because in fact, the
Audiolingual Method has the notion that it is grammar, and vocabulary is a set
of theories that are successfully applied to be applied directly through
speaking. So, students will not master grammar if only memorize but must act.
2. Listening and speaking come, then followed by reading
and writing.
This process is inspired by our own childhood life. When
you were little, you accepted the language you received, right? Until now I have
not found a baby who immediately writes, reads or talks without speaking first.
Then, after hearing our father and mother speak, then we start chattering
little by little like "mama, papa, brother, etc."
3. Every language user is directed to speak in different
ways.
a student will not be forced to memorize a concept and
how to use it repeatedly. They will be taught how to use language naturally and
naturally with different concepts.
